Melvin Nutig, M.D. has had a long and distinguished career in orthopedic surgery, and he is proud of his position as one of the senior members of the Beverly Hills Orthopedic Group. He is a general orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in sports medicine, as well as shoulder, elbow, hip and knee surgery.
He has shared his expertise as a team physician at the United States Olympic Training Centers and Los Angeles City College football team. He was also an early champion of telemedicine, the use of modern communication technology for the delivery of medical care where it might otherwise not be available. He has been recognized as an expert in the field, both locally and nationally.
Dr. Nutig, a native New Yorker, was educated at Brooklyn College and earned his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Italy. After completing residencies in general surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital and orthopedic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine both in New York, he completed a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has been in private practice in Southern California since 1975.
He has authored several medical journal articles and has given presentations at symposia in both sports medicine and telemedicine. In the past he had a daily feature on sports medicine for KFWB radio and held a teaching appointment in orthopedic surgery at UCLA Medical School.
As a member of the attending staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Nutig has held a number of leadership and committee appointments. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. In the worker’s compensation arena he is a QME and AME, and has been recognized as an expert in orthopedic surgery for medical-legal issues.
Away from his practice, Dr. Nutig is an avid runner who has completed four marathons including Los Angeles and New York City.
