Is NovaSure Right For Me?

NovaSure Endometrial Ablation is a permanent solution to heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding. After undergoing the NovaSure procedure, the uterine lining is no longer suitable for pregnancy. Therefore, this procedure is reserved for women who are certain that they are finished having children.

For women who don’t want children right now, but may change their mind in the future, there are alternative procedures to temporarily treat symptoms associated with heavy or irregular periods. Our gynecologists closely evaluate each patient and may recommend the following alternatives to women who are not good candidates for NovaSure:

  • Hormone Therapy
  • Hormone Releasing IUD
  • D&C (Dilation and Curettage)

What Does NovaSure Endometrial Ablation Involve?

NovaSure endometrial ablation is a minimally invasive technique used to gently remove the uterine lining while preserving the uterus to reduce or eliminate menstrual bleeding. During the procedure, our gynecologists utilize a flexible, high-tech device to deliver radiofrequency energy to the uterine lining. The device is equipped with an electrode array that conforms to the shape of the uterus to ensure complete ablation of the uterine lining.

After the lining has been thinned to a specified level, the ablation device is removed and the uterus is allowed to heal naturally. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes and can be performed under local anesthesia in-office or at the La Peer Health Systems outpatient center in Beverly Hills.
