Karen Zaghiyan, MD, FACS. FASCRS is double board certified in colorectal and general surgery. She is an expert in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatments for conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus. She has a special interest inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer and is committed to improving patient care through minimally invasive surgery including robotic, single-incision, and natural orifice surgery.
Dr. Zaghiyan graduated magna cum laude from University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She received her medical degree from University of California, San Diego. She then commenced her general surgery residency at the prestigious Cedars Sinai Medical Center. During her training, she dedicated a year as a clinical research scholar, investigating surgical outcomes in inflammatory bowel disease. After general surgery, she completed her fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center with advanced training in laparoscopic, single incision and robotic techniques. During her training, Dr. Zaghiyan traveled to Singapore, acquiring further training from international leaders in her field.
Dr. Zaghiyan practices in Los Angeles and holds several positions at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center including:
o Director Colorectal Cancer Program; Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Program
o Associate Professor of Surgery
o Associate Program Director of the Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at Cesars-Sinai Medical Center
She has lectured both nationally and internationally at various surgical conferences and authored numerous practice-changing publications in the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals.
