WHAT IS LABIAPLASTY?
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic plastic surgery aimed to re-design the size and shape of a woman’s most intimate area. During this procedure, surgery is performed on the inner lips (labia minora) to provide a more youthful and desirable appearance by removing the area of excess skin.
Commonly affected by age and pregnancy, the labia minora can be pushed outward and extend farther than usual. This can often lead to protrusion beyond the outer lips. Labiaplasty can help fix this. Even though it is designed to correct or reshape a cosmetically imbalanced vagina, labiaplasty can also be an extremely helpful surgery for women experiencing pain or discomfort in the vaginal area.
There are several reasons why a woman may choose to undergo labiaplasty, including (but not limited to):
- Painful intercourse
- Appearance (large, elongated, or sagging)
- Irritation interfering with every day life
- Trouble with under garments
If you have questions on whether or not you’d be a good candidate to undergo labiaplasty, contact one of our board-certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles today to better understand all that the surgical process entails.
LABIA MINORA REDUCTION SURGERY
The main goal of labia minora reduction surgery is to reduce the size of the inner vaginal lips. During surgery, your plastic surgeon will decrease the current size of the your labia minora by trimming away excess skin. This allows the area to be reshaped and customized to fit the needs of the individual.
When a woman feels that her vagina has lost its youthful appearance, a fat transfer to the area is also an option. In cases such as this, fat is often taken from a different area of the body and can be injected into the inner lips to revive the regions appearance.
RECOVERY AFTER LABIAPLASTY
After surgery, patients should expect to rest and recover for several days. Though some bruising or swelling is common alongside minor discomfort in the area, this will most likely subside in the first couple of weeks during your recovery process. Full results will be seen about a month or so following the procedure.
Even though the vaginal area might appear to be healed after a certain point, it’s important to continue to follow the post-operative care as outlined by your surgeon at all times. It’s also best to abstain from sexual intercourse for 4-6 weeks following the procedure to ensure that the area heals properly and without trauma or infection.
