Cosmetic Foot Surgery

The feet are incredibly important structures, not only for a person’s balance and mobility but also for a person’s aesthetic appeal. This is especially in warmer climates like Los Angeles, where feet are shown a lot through flip-flops and sandals as well as at pools and at the beach. As a result, more and more people are turning to cosmetic foot surgery as a way to improve the look of their feet not realizing that they are also correcting abnormal boney deformities that can lead to painful arthritic joints later in life.

Cosmetic surgery is no longer limited to breast augmentations and nose jobs or for the rich and famous. Regular, everyday people are now exploring options for both aesthetic and functional foot surgeries to help alleviate foot problems and change foot appearances. Coincidentally, in most cases, altering the foot’s appearance can also prevent impending structural issues and arthritic joints. Most of these types of corrections are also covered by medical insurance.

You might not realize it, but a lot of money is spent to improve the cosmetic appearance of the feet. For many people, this involves routine pedicures and purchasing the latest and most stylish shoes. Unfortunately, many high-heels are extremely uncomfortable and can actually cause serious damage to foot structure. If you wish to properly take care of your feet, it is recommended that you schedule routine check-ups with a board certified podiatrist.

At La Peer Health Systems, our Beverly Hills podiatrist, Dr. Kamran Jamshidinia can help to correct a number of foot problems with the following cosmetic procedures:

TOE SHORTENING

In the general population, some people have an excessively longer second or third toe causing problems with shoe fit and callusing and dislocation syndromes of the joints of these particular toes. Many patients believe that there are no solutions available for this common problem. Sometimes this can be embarrassing when wearing certain sandals or shoes. A toe shortening procedure is incredibly quick and easy with minimal downtime.

BUNIONS

One of the most common foot issues in the United States, bunions can be very painful and unattractive. Luckily, the board-certified podiatrists at La Peer can perform a bunionectomy to remove the bunion and help to realign the big toe.

HAMMERTOES

This condition can be painful and detrimental to a person’s balance, as hammertoes can cause toes to curl improperly. A surgical procedure can work to relax the tissue in the foot and help to put the toes back into their previous positions. This is an outpatient procedure and in most cases patients are allowed to walk the same day of surgery in a protective boot. There is only minimal pain in the first 48-72 hours after the procedure but overall very easily tolerated with standard pain medications and over the counter remedies. BONE SPURS

Bones spurs occur when there is an outgrowth of bone or cartilage in the foot, and they can cause pain from the excessive pressure when feet are used for walking. This foot pressure can lead to corns, blisters and calluses. Typically a podiatrist would do a simple surgery to remove the bone or cartilage causing the spur.
