Sonu Ahluwalia, M.D. was born in New Delhi and grew up in India. He attended medical school at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in India before moving to the United States in 1993. He received his medical training in Boston and New York until 2003 when he went into private practice in Beverly Hills.

Dr. Ahluwalia has been featured on the television programs below for his expertise inorthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Ahluwalia received his orthopaedic training at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in Boston, one of the most sought after training programs in orthopaedic surgery. He completed a fellowship in Shoulder Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) in Boston. He is trained in arthroscopic repair of rotator cuffs and cartilage repair of the shoulder as well as conventional and reverse shoulder replacement surgery. His fellowship in Sports Medicine was completed at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. This is accredited by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is trained in advance techniques for knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction along with other sports related conditions.

During his Sports Medicine fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Ahluwalia served as assistant physician for the New York Jets and New York Islanders along with Hofstra University varsity teams and helped to take care of them both on field and while training.

His fellowship in Joint Replacement and Joint Preservation Surgery took place at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Harvard Medical School) in Boston. He is a specialist in minimally invasive and muscle sparing approaches to joint replacement of the hip and knee as well as cartilage repair and healing. Dr. Ahluwalia did a Chief Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, which is an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery Fellowship Equivalent. He is a specialist in acute orthopaedic trauma such as fractures, injuries from falls, accidents, etc.

He has presented scientific orthopaedic papers at numerous national and international level meetings as well as published articles in peer reviewed journals such as Journal of Orthopaedic Research. He was Associate Editor and then Editor-In-Chief of The Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School for which he received a special commendation from the Harvard Combined Residency Program.

Dr. Ahluwalia is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and has privileges at Olympia Medical Center along with many ambulatory surgery centers, including La Peer.
