Peter M. Newton, M.D. is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at La Peer Health Systems. His expertise is in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating the full spectrum of orthopedic sports injuries and worker’s compensation injuries. Dr. Newton has worked with professional athletes and teams, and has a proven history of excellence in treating both professional and recreational athletes. His goal is to treat and return active individuals quickly and efficiently back to their activities.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Newton is also a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME). He is educated on the AMA guides and the California Workers Compensation laws, having provided extensive medical legal evaluations as a QME since 1998. His knowledge has led to his being an invited speaker at both the Workers Compensation Applicant’s (CAA) and Defense (CWCDAA) attorney conventions.
Dr. Newton began his orthopedic training in New York City with an orthopedic research fellowship at Columbia University. Thereafter, he did his general surgery internship at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital followed by his orthopedic residency at the New York Orthopedic Hospital, Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He then spent an additional year in San Diego, obtaining a fellowship in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic surgery, and knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery.
As a leader in the field, Dr. Newton won the annual and prestigious Cabaud Award, by the American Society for Sports Medicine. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and orthopedic textbooks.
